Coyotes Get Upshall From Flyers For Carcillo

Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have acquired right wing Scottie Upshall and a second round draft choice in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for left wing Daniel Carcillo. Upshall, 25, has recorded 7-14-21 and 63 penalty minutes (PIM) in 55 games this season for the Flyers, including two power play goals. In 211 career NHL games with Nashville and Philadelphia, the Fort McMurray, Alberta native has registered 38-55-93 and 197 PIM. Upshall also posted career-highs in goals (14), assists (16) and points (30) during the 2007-08 campaign. The 6-foot, 197-pound Upshall also recorded 50-55-105 and 202 PIM in 123 career American Hockey League (AHL) games with Milwaukee and was a part of the 2004 Calder Cup Championship team. Prior to his professional career, Upshall spent three seasons with Kamloops of the Western Hockey League (WHL) where he registered 99-127-226 and 361 PIM in 172 games. In 2001, he was named the Canadian Major Junior Rookie of the Year. Upshall was originally drafted by Nashville in the first round (6th overall) of the 2002 Entry Draft. Carcillo, 23, has registered 3-7-10 and 174 PIM in 54 games with the Coyotes this season. In 129 career NHL games, all with the Coyotes, the 5-foot-11, 207-pound Carcillo has recorded 20-21-41 and 572 PIM. He was acquired by the Coyotes from Pittsburgh on Feb. 27, 2007.

"I think it's worth a chance with a Billy Guerin, that playing with good players he will be able to score goals. The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has acquired center Erik Christensen from the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for center Eric O?Dell. Christensen, 25 (12/17/83), appeared in 47 games for Atlanta this season, scoring 5-14=19 points with 14 penalty minutes (PIM). Christensen ranked second among team leaders in faceoff percentage (54.6%; 233-for-427) and third in faceoffs won. The 6-1, 205-pound native of Edmonton, Alberta averaged 14:16 time on ice (TOI) and 17.1 shifts-per-game with the Thrashers this season. Originally selected by Pittsburgh in the third round (69th overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Christensen was acquired by Atlanta with Colby Armstrong, Angelo Esposito and a first-round selection in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft (Daultan Leveille) in exchange for Marian Hossa and Pascal Dupuis on Feb. 26, 2008. In 200 career NHL games with Pittsburgh and Atlanta, Christensen has recorded 40-49=89 points with 104 PIM. O?Dell, 18 (6/21/90), has appeared in 59 games for Sudbury of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) this season, scoring 30-29=59 points with 51 PIM. A 6-0, 177-pound native of Ottawa, Ontario, O?Dell represented the Eastern Conference at the 2009 OHL All-Star Classic, scoring one goal. In 2007-08, O?Dell played in 28 games for Sudbury, leading team rookies and finishing fifth overall in scoring with 14-18=32 points.

Rangers Get Antropov From Lightning

New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has acquired forward Nik Antropov from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a second round draft pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft and a conditional draft pick. Antropov, 29, was originally Toronto?s first round choice, 10th overall, in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. He has appeared in 63 games with the Maple Leafs this season, registering 21 goals and 25 assists for 46 points, along with 24 penalty minutes. He ranked second on the club in goals (21), points (46) and shots (171), and was tied for fifth on Toronto in assists (25). He also tied for second on the team with six power play goals, and tied for third with two game-winning goals. Antropov has posted nine multiple-point performances this season, including four, three-point efforts. He recorded a season-high, five-game scoring streak from October 18 at Pittsburgh to October 28 vs. Tampa Bay, registering six points (four goals and two assists) over the span. He also notched nine points (three goals and six assists) in a four-game span from December 16 vs. New Jersey to December 22 at Atlanta. Last season, the Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan native registered 26 goals and 30 assists for 56 points, along with 92 penalty minutes and a plus-10 rating. He established career-highs in goals (26), assists (30), points (56), and power play goals (12). He also tied his career-high with 72 games played. He led Toronto in power play goals (12) and game-winning goals (five), and ranked second on the team in goals (26), points (56) and plus/minus rating (plus-10). He also finished fourth on the club with 30 assists. Antropov registered 16 multiple-point games, including four, three-point efforts. He recorded 15 points (six goals and nine assists) during a nine-game stretch from November 27, 2007 vs. Montreal to December 15, 2007 at Montreal. He notched his second career hat trick with a natural hat trick on December 6, 2007 vs. the Rangers at Madison Square Garden. He also skated in his 400th NHL game on November 29, 2007 at Atlanta, and collected his 200th career point on October 18 vs. Florida. The 6-6, 230-pounder has skated in 509 regular season contests with Toronto, recording 125 goals and 166 assists for 291 points, along with 477 penalty minutes. In 2002-03, he established career-highs in games played (72 - tie), penalty minutes (124), power play assists (11), and game-winning goals (six). He notched his first career hat trick as a rookie on December 20, 1999 at Florida, while finishing with 12 goals and 18 assists for 30 points along with a career-best, plus-14 rating in 66 games. He made his NHL debut on October 13, 1999 vs. Florida. In addition, Antropov has tallied two goals and three assists for five points, along with 34 penalty minutes in 28 career NHL post-season contests.

Ducks Acquire Wisniewski, Kontiola From Blackhawks

The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has acquired defenseman James Wisniewski and center Petri Kontiola from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for center Samuel Pahlsson, defenseman Logan Stephenson and a conditional fourth-round selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Wisniewski, 25 (2/21/84), appeared in 31 games for Chicago this season, scoring 2-11=13 points with a +6 rating and 14 penalty minutes (PIM). The 6-0, 207-pound blue liner established a single-game career high with three assists (0-3=3) in his 2008-09 season debut on Dec. 16 at Edmonton. Wisniewski missed the first 28 games of the season with a knee injury. He logged a career-high 28:23 time on ice (TOI) on Jan. 16 vs. the NY Rangers. Currently appearing in his fourth NHL season, the Canton, MI native scored a career-best 7-19=26 points with a +12 rating and 103 PIM in 68 contests with the Blackhawks in 2007-08. He registered a career-high 1-2=3 points on Oct. 31, 2007 at Dallas. In addition, Wisniewski established a career high with a +4 rating in a two-point night (1-1=2) on Mar. 23, 2008 vs. St. Louis. Selected by Chicago in the fifth round (156th overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Wisniewski has collected 13-43=56 points with a +21 rating and 199 PIM in 168 career NHL games. He has recorded a plus-or-even rating in each of his four seasons with the Blackhawks. Playing his junior hockey with Plymouth of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), he ranked third among defensemen in OHL scoring for the 2003-04 season, earning 17-53=70 points in 50 contests. Wisniewski has appeared for Team USA on multiple occasions, winning the Gold Medal at three different levels (World Under-17 Challenge in 2001, Under-18 World Junior Championship in 2002 and Under-20 World Junior Championship in 2002). Kontiola, 24 (10/4/84), appeared in 61 games with Rockford of the American Hockey League (AHL) this season, earning a team-leading 15-38=53 points with 22 PIM. A 6-0, 204-pound center, Kontiola made his NHL debut on Nov. 25, 2007 at Vancouver. He earned his first NHL point (assist) on Dec. 19, 2007 vs. Nashville. In total, the Seinajoki, Finland native has appeared in 12 NHL games with Chicago, scoring 0-5=5 points with six PIM and a +5 rating. Kontiola also appeared in 66 contests with Rockford in 2007-08, finishing second on the club both in assists (50) and points (68). Prior to making his North American professional debut in 2007-08, Kontiola played in 200 games over four seasons (2003-07) with Tappara of the SM-Liiga (Finnish League), scoring 33-96=129 points. Pahlsson, 31 (12/17/77), appeared in 52 contests with Anaheim this season, collecting 5-10=15 points with 32 PIM. The 6-0, 204-pound center has missed the last 13 games with mononucleosis. He led the club in faceoff wins in each of the last four seasons. In 544 career NHL games with Boston and Anaheim, the Ange, Sweden native has earned 52-91=143 points with 258 PIM. A member of both Anaheim?s 2007 Stanley Cup champion and 2003 Western Conference champions squads, Pahlsson has appeared in 64 career postseason contests, earning 7-16=23 points. Originally drafted by Colorado in the seventh round (176th overall) of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft, Pahlsson was acquired by Anaheim from Boston on Nov. 18, 2000 in exchange for Patrick Traverse and Andrei Nazarov. Stephenson, 23 (2/19/86), appeared in 44 contests with Iowa (AHL) and San Antonio (AHL) this season, collecting 1-3=4 points with 61 PIM. In his rookie year with San Antonio in 2006-07, the 6-3, 205-pound blueliner collected 3-5=8 points with 90 PIM. In 191 career AHL contests, the Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native has earned 5-15=20 points with 245 PIM. Stephenson also played in seven Calder Cup Playoff contests with San Antonio in 2007-08, registering one assist (0-1=1) with six PIM. Stephenson was originally selected by Phoenix in the second round (35th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He was acquired by Anaheim from Phoenix in exchange for left wing Joakim Lindstrom on Dec. 3, 2008.

Lightning Acquire Petiot From Maple Leafs

The Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired defenseman Richard Petiot from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for goaltender Olaf Kolzig, defenseman Jamie Heward, defenseman Andy Rogers and a fourth-round selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft (previously acquired from Carolina), Executive Vice President and General Manager Brian Lawton announced. Petiot, 26, is a 6-foot-3, 200-pound native of Daysland, Alberta who has skated in 45 games with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League this season, recording three goals, 14 points and 59 penalty minutes. Originally drafted in the fourth round, 116th overall, by Los Angeles at the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Petiot made his NHL debut with the Kings against the Atlanta Thrashers on January 19, 2006, and recorded two penalty minutes in two games with the Kings. In 161 career AHL games with the Marlies and Manchester, Petiot has recorded 10 goals, 37 points and 192 penalty minutes. Prior to turning pro Petiot played four seasons at Colorado College (2001-05), tallying 11 goals, 33 points and 220 penalty minutes. In 2005 he helped the Tigers reach the NCAA?s Frozen Four. Kolzig and Heward were signed as free agents by the Lightning prior to the 2008-09 season, while Rogers was selected in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has acquired center Nick Bonino, goaltender Timo Pielmeier and a conditional 2009 fourth round draft pick from San Jose in exchange for defenseman Kent Huskins and left wing Travis Moen. Bonino, 20 (4/20/88), is in his sophomore season at Boston University (BU). He was named the Reebok Hockey East Player of the Month for February, scoring 6-8=14 points with a +9 rating in nine games. He won the Most Valuable Player award at the annual Beanpot Tournament last month, scoring three goals in two games as Boston University won the title. In 33 games this season, he has scored 13-24=37 points with a team-leading +19 rating. A native of Hartford, CT, Bonino was drafted by San Jose in the sixth round (173rd overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. As a freshman at BU, Bonino led all Hockey East freshmen in goals, scoring 16-13=29 points in 39 games. Before enrolling at BU, he was the 2007 United States Hockey Report Prep Forward of the Year. He captained Avon Old Farms (Avon, CT) to the 2007 New England Division 1 Prep championship, scoring 24-42=66 points in 26 games. Pielmeier, 19 (7/7/89), has earned a 29-9-0 record with a 2.62 goals-against average (GAA) and .916 save percentage (SV%) in 41 games this season with the second-place Shawinigan-Cataractes of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). The 6-0, 175-pound netminder ranks fifth overall in the QMJHL in both GAA and SV%, while also ranking sixth in wins. Selected by San Jose in the third round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft (83rd overall), Pielmeier began his North American career in the QMJHL with St. John?s in 2007-08, leading the league in SV% (.911). The native of Deggendorf, Germany represented his country in the 2005-06 World U-18 Championships and again in 2006-07 at the World Junior Championships. Huskins, 29 (5/4/79), played in 33 games with Anaheim this season, scoring 2-4=6 points with a +6 rating and 27 penalty minutes (PIM). He has missed the last 26 games with a broken foot. Huskins was drafted by Anaheim in the sixth round (156th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. He has played in 142 NHL games (all with Anaheim), scoring 6-22=28 points with a +26 rating and 100 PIM. Moen, 26 (4/6/82), played in 63 games with Anaheim this year, scoring 4-7=11 points with 77 PIM. He was acquired by Anaheim from Chicago in exchange for Michael Holmqvist on July 30, 2005. He has appeared in 343 NHL games, scoring 26-25=51 points with 473 PIM.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired goaltender Kevin Lalande from the Calgary Flames in exchange for a fourth round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, and assigned him to the Syracuse Crunch, Columbus? American Hockey League affiliate, club General Manager Scott Howson announced today. Lalande, 22, has gone 4-1-1 with a 1.94 goals-against average, .929 save percentage and one shutout in six games with Quad City of the American Hockey League this season, along with posting a 9-8-0 record with a 2.39 goals-against average, .925 save percentage and three shutouts in 21 games with Las Vegas of the East Coast Hockey League. The Kingston, Ontario native has a 6-4-1 mark with a 2.66 goals-against average, .908 save percentage and one shutout in 13 career AHL games. He has gone 26-13-4 with a 2.20 goals-against average, .929 save percentage and six shutouts in 48 career ECHL games, including going 13-6 with a 2.52 goals-against average and three shutouts in 20 playoff games in 2007-08, leading Las Vegas to the Kelly Cup Championship. Prior to his professional career, Calgary?s fifth pick, 128th overall, in the 2005 Entry Draft, Lalande spent four seasons with Belleville of the Ontario Hockey League. He combined to go 67-47-11 with a 3.01 goals-against average, .916 save percentage and seven shutouts in 131 career games. He ranked in the top five in the OHL in save percentage each season from 2004-07 and was selected to the 2005-06 All-Star Team.

Kings Gets Justin Williams In 3-Team Deal

The Los Angeles Kings have acquired right wing Justin Williams from the Carolina Hurricanes as part of a three-team trade involving Carolina and Edmonton, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today. In acquiring Williams, the Kings have traded forward Patrick O?Sullivan to Edmonton and one of the club?s two second-round draft selections in the upcoming 2009 NHL Entry Draft to Carolina (the Kings had two selections in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft ? the selection going to Carolina was originally Calgary?s selection which the Kings acquired in 2007 as part of a trade that sent Craig Conroy to the Flames). As part of the trade, Carolina has acquired forward Erik Cole and a fifth-round selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft from Edmonton, and the Oilers are receiving a second-round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft from the Hurricanes. Williams, 27, has played in 32 games with the Hurricanes this season and has 10 points (3-7=10) and nine penalty minutes. The 6-1, 195-pounder from Cobourg, Ontario, is currently on the injured reserve list due to a hand injury. He suffered a broken hand during the Carolina-Buffalo game on February 15. Williams, a member of Carolina?s Stanley Cup winning team in 2006 and an All-Star in 2007 when he scored a career-high 33 goals, has played in 491 career NHL games with the Hurricanes and the Philadelphia Flyers, the team that selected him in the first-round (28th overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. In those 491 career NHL regular season games, he has recorded 316 points (124-192=316) and 325 penalty minutes, while in 42 playoff games he has 24 points (8-16=24) and 46 penalty minutes. He has also represented Canada at three World Championship tournaments. Williams? two finest NHL seasons came in 2005-06 and 2006-07. In ?05-06, he played in all 82 games and had a career-best 76 points (31-45=76). The next season, he also played in all 82 games and had 67 points (33-34=67). He signed a five-year contract with the Hurricanes prior to the 2006-07 season. O'Sullivan, 24, played in 62 games with the Kings this season and had 37 points (14-23=37) and 16 penalty minutes. Acquired by the Kings from Minnesota in 2006, O?Sullivan recorded 109 points (41-68=109) and 66 career penalty minutes with the team in 188 games.

He was selected as a starter for the Planet/USA team at the 2007-08 AHL All-Star Game. Prior to turning pro Lashoff played three seasons of junior hockey with Kitchener of the Ontario Hockey League, recording 16 goals, 93 points and 284 penalty minutes in 162 games. Karsums, 5-10 and 198 pounds, has played in six games with Boston this season, recording an assist and six shots on goal. He made his NHL debut on December 13 versus Atlanta and recorded his first NHL point with an assist on January 10 against Carolina. Originally drafted by the Bruins in the second round, 64th overall, at the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Karsums spent the majority of this season with Providence, recording 17 goals and 41 points in 43 games. He is tied for second on the team in goals and is fourth in points. Karsums also leads the P-Bruins in shorthanded goals with three. A native of Riga, Latvia, Karsums, 23, has played in 176 career AHL games with Providence, amassing 50 goals and 139 points. He has appeared in 22 career Calder Cup Playoff games, recording 10 goals and 14 points. Prior to turning pro, Karsums played in 139 games with the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, tallying 78 goals and 144 points from 2003-06. Recchi, signed as a free agent by the Lightning on July 8, 2008, appeared in 62 games with Tampa Bay this season, recording 13 goals, 45 points and 20 penalty minutes.
